The Guard - This movie is hilarious and original with a lot of 1960's and 70's film references from screen shots to character development. The acting is tremendous.
The Trip - Original and funny with lots of great food imagery and outdoor scenery. If you like Steve Coogan you will like this movie.
Midnight in Paris - This movie is definitely Allen's best of the past few years.
Attack the block - This movie is just o.k. If you have seen any decent science fiction movies you have probably seen better story lines and better aliens.
Red State - This movie is really good. I was taken aback by it because I was expecting typical Kevin Smith dialogue and camera work. I was pleasantly surprised by the darkness of the material, the originality of the new lingo, and the fact that it is hard to pin down exactly what genre this movie falls into. I would have to guess that it is a social satire and a bit of a thriller. Also the acting is superb (Michael Parks is amazing).

Breaking Bad season 4 - This season is not as great as the last one, but what it is building up towards will no doubt be amazing.
True Blood season 4 - I think this is the only show that I have ever watched were in the final episode 3 main characters and 3 minor characters are killed off. I think the next season will be crazier than this one due to all of the new story lines that were just heaved upon the audience within the last few minutes of the episode. I like the way the season ended.

All of the movies and some of the television shows that you should watch at least once in your life.

I used to own almost all of these on dvd at one point in time. I watched them
all more than once including the commentaries and special features if they had
any. All of these movies warrant at least one viewing. I am not going to give a
reason just yet for why you should watch them but I might add that commentary
later. If you are wondering why they are not in alphabetical order it is due to this
reasoning. I placed my dvd collection in director order considering the fact that they
are the ones who created what you are viewing. The only time the list gets out of this
order is when a musical act is involved and after art school confidential where I have
added more movies to the list. I hope you enjoy the many hours of entertainment as
I have watching these movies.

Possible Oscar nominees for 2010

Inception - Visually stunning but completely lacking in a real connection with the audience. It is an interesting idea with a great cast and supposedly represents the movie making process and its ever changing palette from different writers to the directors interpretation(So Chris Nolan Says). I look forward to The Dark Knight Rises! Casting news has been posted and it is very intriguing.
127 Hours - Personally I like Sunshine and Millions better than this story. The thing I enjoyed most was seeing how far James Franco has come as an Actor. He has really honed his craft and I think this coming year will put him on the mainstream map.
Black Swan - Not as good as the Wrestler but a very internalized story of how pressure and the chance of fame can take a toll on someones mental faculties.
True Grit - I thought this was a great movie. I love westerns when they are done well and the Coen brothers did not disappoint. The acting is superb by everyone involved and there is definitely more depth from this version than earlier one with John Wayne(I like that one too though). I have not read the book but I assume that the Coen brothers dug through it for more emotional depth and a little more realism.
The Fighter - This movie is in the bottom tier as a boxing movie. There have been so many movies about the sport and the kind of personalities that get into the ring that it takes something extraordinary to elicit a great response. The best thing about the movie is Christian Bale. I will bet now that he will win for Best Supporting Actor.
The Kings Speech - Absolutely amazing. I will bet that Colin Firth will win best actor. I have always liked Colin Firth and he brings such an emotional depth to this character that one is compelled to have true empathy towards him. Guy Pearce, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Timothy Spall, and Michael Gambon are all amazing. I would love to see Timothy Spall in a movie about Churchill.
The Kids Are Alright - This movie has a lot going for it. It treads on independent film territory with insightful dialogue and feeling without seeming cliched. The entire cast was well played and realistic enough to believe that these characters actually care for one another. Mia Wachowski did an excellent job and ever since I witnessed her capabilities on the first season of In Treatment I knew she was going to be a great actress. Annette Benning has never been better. Julianne Moore is always terrific and Mark Ruffalo has built an impresive resume in the past few years. If you have not seen The Brothers Bloom or Zodiac check them out.
Social Network - the acting is superb, the story is interesting, but I did not love this movie. First off the main character has no redeeming qualities about him. Even the supporting characters have enough similar flaws that one is not able to feel any real connection with them. Maybe this was the point of the movie on a different level for us to feel some disconnect from them as we have become so alienated with the world around us and can only socialize with others through social media websites.

Best Vampire movie since.........

If you have not seen Let the Right One In go out Immediately and watch it. This is the best Vampire movie I have seen in quite a while. I loved the mythology and the cinematography. It is based on a book and they are remaking it for American audiences. Supposedly it will cover different things from the book, but if it is like the rest of Hollywood remakes it will suck.

Best ones that I could think of:
Nosferatu
Nosferatu - Herzog remake
Vampyr
Shadow of the Vampire
Interview with a Vampire

Best double features

Best double features I can think of right now are

No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Both are genius and both make you uneasy and uncertain about life. I think I could watch these two movies in a loop forever.

Sunshine and Moon. Both follow the human psyche through the perils of work in space and the outcomes of both can alter the mood of your day significantly.

Letters from Iwo Jima and Fires on the Plain. The first is Clint Eastwood's better of the two war pictures about the island and the other is my favorite war movie of all time. This is what I imagine war to be like utter hell. This movie was banned for years in Japan due to the unabashed look at what really happens in wartime.

Hidden Fortress and Seven Samurai. Settle in for a day of subtitles and samurais and have fun trying to pick out what movies ripped story lines straight from these magnificent movies.

Mean Streets and Goodfellas. See how Scorsese has changed the face of cinema in a matter of hours with a personal film and with a book as his source material.

Greenberg

Noah Baumbach co wrote this with his wife Jennifer Jason Leigh and directed this and it feels like some of his other work. It also has some Robert altman type shots that reminded me of Shortcuts. Due to Leigh's involvement you get a hint of the Anniversary Party in the pacing of the script. I thought at times it was laugh out loud funny and I think I have met some people like the ones in the story. Ben Stiller does an amazing job and Rhys Ifans is growing on me more and more. Definitely worth a watch.
